STUART JOEL NUGGETT & KEVIN SULLIVAN – I’M BARRED AGAIN

‘I’m Barred Again’ is a drinking song for the drinking season that is just around the corner. Well, it’s a song about not drinking too much or, that’s right, you’ll be singing, ‘I’m Barred Again’.

Kevin Sullivan and the Sulli-Vans have toured and covered lots of miles over the last few years including many shows in Australia’s’ last frontier, The Northern Territory. ‘I’m Barred Again’ is an exciting collaboration Kevin Sullivan undertook with two musicians. The first, an amazing indigenous singer/songwriter Stuart Joel Nuggett, from Elliott in the NT who currently resides in Alice Springs and the second musician, none other than a member of The Sulli-Vans, KJ Sullivan, Kevin’s son who has performed all over Australia.

This is the first song KJ has written and as he comes of age as a performer and as a young man, this song is a gentle reminder about the excesses in life. It’s a fun drinking song, however, it’s also a reminder to us all that we are not invincible.

The song is about a guy who is barred from every bar in town, the cops, his mates and even his girlfriend all hate him, he has nowhere to sleep, so he sleeps with his dog outside and yet he keeps singing, “I’m not sure what I done”

I think both in our youth and when we get older, we sometimes turn to alcohol. Our friend in the song just keeps spiralling down and he doesn’t seem to see how his mental health is affected. The line when he sings, “Well I don’t care what they think and I’m still gonna drink, and no-ones gonna slow me down”, is a big wake up call for him.
