‘ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS GONE FOREVER’ was written by Slim Dusty and released on his 1983 album ‘ON THE WALLABY’. A song of reflection, of hope, and a desire to always be free.
The 1980s were pretty good in Australia, and although we had a few dramas at home, the rest of the world was in a bit of a mess. So many promises, but “where are the rainbows?”.
40 odd years later and we haven’t learnt too much at all. This song resonates so strongly with today’s climate of world events and even more so at home. Our culture and freedoms are being watered down and eroded daily.
I release this song as a tribute to Slim and in the firm hope that our future lawmakers and politicians find the right answers! Let’s hope the next 40 years aren’t a repeat of the last.
