Kathy Carver – Queen Of The Rocking Chair (MP3)
$1.65

The song was written by Western Australian singer – songwriter, William (Bill) J Tomsett back in 1972, whilst living in Perth Western Australia. Inadvertently to Bill, he thought he was telling a story about their property, but the story ended up being a love story about his wife, Yda.
Bill and Yda initially met in Northam when he was 18 and Yda was 15. Bill was singing and playing a guitar at the time, and his immediate response was, “I’m going to marry that girl”. One year later, they married and had 2 children, a daughter and a son. Bill had a childhood dream of owning his own piece of land. In 1978, Bill and Yda finally bought 43 acres at Perkins Beach near Albany, Western Australia. This is where the ‘Rocking Chair Riding Stable’ was formed and Yda became the official “Queen of The Rocking Chair”.
I first heard the song back in 2025 when Bill’s daughter gave me their CD to listen to. The song had an immediate effect on me, being a family encouraged by music and performing together, pretty much reflected my childhood upbringing.
Bill was very kind to let me record this song. Our main emphasis was to keep it to as close to the original traditional structure and feel of the song. Hope you like it.
