Wattmore – It’s Called Love, It’s Called The Blues (MP3)

‘It’s Called Love … It’s Called The Blues’ is the new single from Brisbane duo Wattmore, written and recorded in collaboration with long time cowriter/mentor and Australian country music legend Allan Caswell.
Wattmore and Caswell blend classic Australian country storytelling with a focus on strong melodies and honest lyrics. The track sits comfortably between country and blues, with layered guitars, harmony vocals, and a relaxed groove that lets the story lead. Caswell’s spoken vocal adds warmth and authenticity, giving the song a grounded, lived-in quality.
The song began the usual way for Wattmore: with a guitar riff that refused to leave. From there, the brothers did what they do best, locking into a groove that favours control over clutter and leaves room for the song to say what it needs to say.
“Like most Wattmore songs, It’s Called Love … It’s Called The Blues started with an infuriating earworm of a guitar riff,” says Caswell. “The boys have a tight, instinctive way of playing that makes writing with them easy.”
During the selection process for Wattmore’s upcoming debut album, producer Lindsay Waddington suggested leaning into Caswell’s unmistakable spoken vocal delivery. They tried it. It worked. No further debate required.
Following the strong performance of Canadian Whiskey, which charted well in Australia and picked up attention in Canada and the United States, It’s Called Love … It’s Called The Blues moves the Wattmore story forward without changing course.
As Caswell puts it: “They’re keeping me young, and I’m doing my best to lead them astray.”
