This track is written from the heart and tells the true story of Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean, a young Tasmanian sailor in the Royal Australian Navy during the Second World War. He made the supreme sacrifice in the endeavour to save his fellow seamen with an act of extreme bravery and unselfish sacrifice.
He was honoured by the highest award the military could give, the Victoria Cross and the naming of an Australian Naval Vessell after him, the HMAS Sheean, the only vessel in the Royal Australian Navy to be named after an ordinary seaman.
Dianne released this track late last year but it needed to be withdrawn from release as a detail in the true story needed to be corrected. His ship, the corvette HMAS Armidale, was headed for Betana Bay in Timor.
For his courageous action Teddy Sheean was posthumously Mentioned in Despatches; this award was upgraded to the Victoria Cross for Australia in 2020.
