Johnny Shilo – One Hundred Thousand Migrants (MP3)
$1.65
This song commemorates the first arrivals of one hundred thousand migrants to Australia by ship 75 years ago. Between 1949 and 1960. These individuals fled war-torn European countries after World War II and were resettled in camps such as Greta, NSW, with only a suitcase in their hands. I, Johnny, was born at Greta Migrant camp.
So, this is also my family story, as my parents and older brother were amongst the European migrants.
Unfortunately, the conditions were far from suitable. Many such camps existed across the Country.
